Letter to Brigadier General Jonathan Dayton requesting that an old soldier be enlisted to muster recruits. He states that they are needed near Niagra. He discusses the increased rations that are to be given, and states that he sees it as unnecessary and expensive, and not even asked for by the soldiery. He cites the addition of bread, vinegar, and soap to the rations and the cost of $60,000 per year to furnish 20,000 troops with an extra half gill of whiskey or rum. Written from the War Department.

Jonathan Dayton (October 16, 1760 – October 9, 1824) was an American politician from the U.S. state of New Jersey.
